Interior Design Tips For Staging Your Home Before Selling It

About Me
A Family Room Designed for Fun

In a few, short months, I’m building a family room onto my house. When the construction is complete, I’ll have both a formal living room and a casual family room. I want to make my family room a fun place for everyone to hang out in. I plan to buy a comfortable couch and a couple of oversized chairs to put in the room. My husband is also interested in mounting a large-screen television on the wall in this new space. One side of the room will be dedicated to exercise. I’ll be placing my treadmill, elliptical trainer, and stationary bike on this side of the room. To add interest to the space, I’m purchasing some whimsical wall hangings. On this blog, I hope you will discover some stress-free tips for designing a family room. Enjoy!

Interior Design Tips For Staging Your Home Before Selling It

Most real estate agents agree that staging a home is one of the most important steps homeowners can take before selling their homes. If your agent recommends staging your home, you could hire an interior designer to help you with this if you do not know a lot about decorating. Interior designers are great at making homes look nicer, and here are the top four tips the designer might recommend doing.

Repaint With A Light Color

Bright, bold paint colors can be a huge turnoff to buyers and can make rooms look smaller. If your walls look bold, dingy, bright, or dirty, you should repaint them. When doing this, choose a color that is neutral, light, and attractive. You may want to repaint every room in the home with the same color too, just to help make the house look even and consistent.

Get Rid Of Things

The good thing about painting your house is that you will be forced to clean it thoroughly and move things around to make room for the painters. When you do this, you should take the time to get rid of things. Throw things away if you don't need them, or pack them away in a storage unit. Eliminating some of the things you own will make your house look tidier and emptier, and these are good traits when selling a home.

Add Mirrors

As you are decorating after the painting is complete, you should consider adding mirrors to your walls. While it's important to keep the walls simple, adding mirrors is one of the top ways to make a home look bigger. Because mirrors reflect, your home will naturally look more spacious if you add mirrors to the walls.

Add Plants

The fourth tip an interior designer may offer is to add plants to your home. Real plants typically make a home look nicer. They add color and texture to a room, and plants and flowers offer positive effects on health and moods. Real plants are able to remove pollutants from the air in your home, which can help make your home cleaner. You can place plants in all the rooms in your home, but you should make sure the plants are in direct sunlight for at least part of the day.
